Do we want to become extinct like the Dodo?
This species was discovered and documented by European adventurers over 500 years ago. A century later, the Dodo disappeared forever. This rather dignified solemn bird with a walking stick makes its appearance in Alice in Wonderland - one of a series of characters invented by the author Lewis Carroll whose real name was Charles Dodgson (reputedly an Oxford mathematician who stammered Do-Do Dodgson).
The dodo represents much more than just another extinct biological species. Native to Mauritius, it became immortalized in the royal courts of Europe and in children's dreams. It has become ingrained in European and American culture far removed from Mauritian folklore.
